Give decisions a home

Keep one project record with sketches, a parts list, test results and open questions. Decide where approved changes are written down. When two people propose different designs, choose a test that can compare them rather than letting the loudest opinion settle it.

A decision record before the first trial

This filled example is a planning aid, not minutes of a real meeting.

Decision
Use one 320 mm lever with holes A and B. Compare output displacement for the same 10 mm vertical input drop; do not compare two complete different builds.
Disputed choice
One proposal favours more travel; another favours less effort. Keep them as two questions. This first test measures travel only.
Evidence so far
Geometry predicts 20 mm at A and 5 mm at B. No trial has been run. The table is still blank.
Check
Observer verifies a level start, unchanged load and actual 10 mm input. Note keeper records all three trials per hole, including any slip.
Responsible role
Builder: prepare and check the pivot; observer: read rulers; note keeper: record setup. Names remain unassigned until a group uses this plan.
Next handoff
Give the next builder the marked arm, sketch and raw sheet. State whether the last action was only a prediction, a completed trial or an unresolved fault.

Before accepting a change, ask: what observation supports it, which conditions changed, and can the next person repeat it? Use the blank measurement record for the actual readings.

Rotate responsibilities

Each session needs someone to coordinate tasks, someone to check the test and someone to record the result. Rotate these responsibilities so knowledge spreads. Pair a newcomer with an experienced participant and make it normal to ask for an explanation.

A guide, not a reopened community

This page offers a group-work framework. It does not host the former site’s members, discussions or private files. No account registration, member directory or community activity is claimed.
